A favorite childhood memory for many is loading up in the family car, throwing a picnic basket in the back, and heading out to “see what we can see”. The summer months especially bring the desire to travel and each year more and more families are taking to the open road looking for adventure. Depending on where you live, there may be great road trips right on your doorstep. Here are a few of our favorite road warrior destinations for you to explore.

Niagara Falls, New York

Consistently one of the most popular road trip destinations in the country, Niagara Falls has much to offer. Take a trip to the base of the falls on the Maid of the Mist, explore the tunnel and see the falls from underneath, or just enjoy the beauty of the Niagara River and nearby waterfalls. This area is also home to some pretty great day trips. Nearby Old Fort Niagara offers an opportunity for a history lesson. Also nearby is the Erie Canal and the Great Lakes turning this quick trip into a full-blown vacation.

Traverse City, Michigan

If fruit stands and farmlands are your thing, a trip in and around Traverse City, Michigan is the place for you. Whether you are exploring the city or taking one of the day trips to the area orchards, wineries, or the impressive Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City is a great hub to enjoy all Michigan has to offer.

Bozeman, Montana

Perfectly situated for the ultimate mountain road trip, Bozeman, Montana gives visitors access to several national parks and so much more. With Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks within reach, beautiful prairie lands, and plenty of animal action located right next door, Bozeman is a perfect hub for an amazing road trip. There are even some still-active ranches that offer activities and action for guests of all ages.

South Lake Tahoe

Pristine lakes, towering mountains, hiking, fishing and so much more are ready to greet visitors to South Lake Tahoe. While this area is one of the most highly trafficked, overdeveloped regions, it does make a great hub for some amazing road trips. Trek up a nearby mountain to one of the many ski resorts (Heavenly comes to mind) or enjoy a trek around the lake. One of the best road trips would be to nearby Virginia City, Nevada. Step back into the old west and enjoy all this little town has to offer.
